Next month I’ll be leading a translation workshop on the works of Herta Müller in London, as part of a series of events on the Nobel-prize winning author including an academic conference, Herta Müller and the Currents of European History, at the IMLR on 21-22 Sept, and kicked off by Müller herself in conversation with her translator Phillip Boehm at the British Library on 17 Sept.
Translation Workshop on the Works of Herta Müller
on Wed 20 Sept, 9.30am – 5pm
Workshop is free, but booking required – see below.
This workshop will examine the challenges of translating Müller’s short prose and collages, starting in the morning with a discussion of existing translations before moving on to tackle a short prose text from one of her first collections. In the afternoon we will focus on her collages, which we will reproduce as collages using cut outs.
Refreshments are provided; lunch will be at your own cost.
Texts and collage materials will be supplied.
This workshop is aimed at translators from German as well as those interested in the works of Herta Müller. Places are limited, so please email Lyn Marven firstname.lastname@example.org to register your interest in attending!
